It’s a battle of National League teams on the diamond as they kick off a set down in Hotlanta. The Arizona Diamondbacks are on the road as they make the trip to kick off a three-game weekend set with the Atlanta Braves Friday night. Arizona closed a three-game set on the road against Cincinnati Thursday afternoon, hanging on for a 14-11 win in 10 innings to sweep the series. Atlanta split a two-game set on the road with the Yankees as they earned a 4-1 victory Wednesday night. The Braves had Thursday night off. Arizona Diamondbacks Looking to Maintain Recent Momentum
Arizona let multiple leads slip away but managed to hang on in extra innings to beat the Reds Thursday and sweep the season series. The Diamondbacks entered Thursday night fourth in the NL West, 5.5 games behind the Dodgers for the top spot in the division. David Peralta swung the hot bat for Arizona with five hits while scoring twice and driving in seven runs. Peralta (his second) and Carson Kelly (his fourth) each homered in the contest. Taylor Widener didn’t factor in the decision as he threw 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. Caleb Smith (1-1) earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. Atlanta Braves Try to Open Series on Positive Note
Atlanta earned a split of their two-game interleague set with the Yankees on the road as they prevailed on Wednesday night. The Braves entered Thursday tied for fourth in the NL East, 1.5 games behind the Mets for the top spot in the division race. Atlanta finished with only four hits in Wednesday’s game but that proved to be enough, in part by being helped by eight walks. Austin Riley (three runs, RBI) had two of the hits, including his first homer of the season, for the Braves. Ian Anderson (1-0) earned the win on the mound as he threw 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with four walks and four strikeouts.https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-1&features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X2hvcml6b25fdHdlZXRfZW1iZWRfOTU1NSI6eyJidWNrZXQiOiJodGUiLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfX0%3D&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1385231570534076417&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwinnersandwhiners.com%2Fgames%2Fmlb%2F4-23-2021%2Farizona-diamondbacks-vs-atlanta-braves-prediction-4920%2F&sessionId=51a7fe6aa2828473221fafe3110ec0f3b8a7f6fc&siteScreenName=WinnersWhiners&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ff2e7cf%3A1618526400629&width=550px

This one is going to be interesting as the Diamondbacks have suddenly found some momentum while the Braves have been up and down. It’s hard to get a read on what Ynoa brings to the table as he has good stuff but also gave up three homers to the Cubs in his last start. Arizona has played well of late and Weaver pitched well in his lone start at Truist Park two years ago. While Atlanta had the day off Thursday, they still had to fly back from the Big Apple after Wednesday’s game. With the way Arizona is hitting right now, you have to give the slight advantage to the Diamondbacks, even being on the road.Prediction: Arizona Diamondbacks +125

Arizona comes into this game having seen the over hit in 10 of their 19 games on the season after Thursday’s performance. The Diamondbacks are fourth in the majors as they average 5.26 runs per game going into Thursday night. Arizona was dead last in run prevention as they allowed an average of 5.42 runs per contest this year, giving them an average total of 10.68 runs per game. Atlanta has seen the over post a 10-7-1 mark this season. The Braves are eighth in the majors by scoring an average of 4.78 runs per game this year. Atlanta is tied for 21st in run prevention by allowing an average of 4.83 runs per contest, giving them an average total of 9.61 runs per game. With Arizona hitting well right now and a questionable pitching matchup, lean toward this one going over the total.Prediction: Over 8.5
